Additional Information:

"Vessel of Sand" is based on the novel of the same name by Seicho Matsumoto. The film is commonly known as "Castle of Sand".

The Anokoro Film Soundtrack Series was released to coincide with Shochiku's Anokoro Film DVD/Blu-ray series. The brief soundtrack series consisted of five volumes released by Shochiku Music Publishing's in-house label, Shochiku Records. "Anokoro" translates to "at that time" or "of that time". The five albums in the series are:

Anokoro Film Soundtrack Series: Vessel of Sand Film Original Music Collection (SOST-3014)
Anokoro Film Soundtrack Series: Yatsuhaka Village (SOST-3017)
Anokoro Film Soundtrack Series: August Without Emperor Film Original Music Collection (SOST-3019)
Anokoro Film Soundtrack Series: Yellow Handkerchief of Happiness Film Original Music Collection (SOST-3021)
Anokoro Film Soundtrack Series: The Incident/The Demon (SOST-3022)

According to the album booklet, there is a mystery surrounding the master tapes. Based on the documentation accompanying the tapes, the recording session date was on January 19, 1978, which is nearly four years after the film was released (the film was released on October 19, 1974). The booklet suggests that the tapes may be copies of the original, first generation, master tapes.

Tracks 7 (M-7) and 8 (M-8A + M-8B) were missing from the tapes, and had to be lifted directly from the film's audio track (soundtrack) itself, as indicated in the track lists. The final portion of track 17 (M-2-3 Second Half) couldn't be included on the album for the same reason.
